Teaching 

I was asked to go to South Africa by Sol Kerzner who owned SUN CITY and 

several night clubs, while I was there I married a South African lady, naturally 

I stayed there for some time. Although I had done some teaching before, this 

was really the beginning of my teaching career, I also performed cabaret and 

solo appearances. I was asked to teach for the Education Department in Durban, 

in Natal and at the same time for an Orchestra, which I did for about a year. 

However I missed Johannesburg, I was offered a position with the 

Witwatersrand Education Department in Johannesburg and also the University 

of the Witwatersrand. I've taught private pupils alongside doing recording 

sessions and orchestrating music for the SABC, I also rehearsed and conducted 

their student orchestra which kept me very busy. 

 

In 2008 when I was teaching at Pridwin Preparatory School we were invited to 

take part at the “37th INTERNATIONAL YOUTH MUSIC FESTIVAL IN VIENNA, 

I had the pleasure of composing and orchestrating the music for them. Orchestras from all over the World took part, we were very proud to win 1st Prize in our category. 

 

My specialisms were in teaching trumpet, trombone, clarinet, sax alto, tenor and flute, and music theory, in preparing pupils for their examinations with Trinity College or the Royal School of Music.
